Robert L. Herbert

Robert L. Herbert (1929 - 2021) taught at Yale University and Mt. Holyoke College.  He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society, and was named Officier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Government. Among his books were Impressionism: Art, Leisure and Parisian Society, Nature’s Workshop: Renoir’s Writings on the Decorative Arts, Seurat: Drawings and Paintings and Seurat and the Making of La Grande Jatte.
