Collection: Maurice Scève

Although his work lay largely unread until the early twentieth century, Maurice Scève (c.1500–1564) was during his lifetime recognized as the greatest poet of the city of Lyons. His chief works include Délie, Objet de plus haute vertu (1544), the elegy Arion (1536), the eclogue La Saulsaye (1547), and Microcosme, an encyclopedic account of the creation of the world and of mankind’s bittersweet enjoyment of the fruits of knowledge.
