Karel Schoeman

Karel Schoeman was born in 1939 in Trompsburg, in the Free State.  He received his bachelor’s degree in languages and a Higher Diploma in library studies.  He is best known for his historical fiction pieces, for which he has earned a long list of awards, but has also translated many classic works into Afrikaans.  He retired from his post as an archivist at the South African National Library in Cape Town in 1998.
