Diane DiMassa and Alison Bechdel, two giants in the world of queer cartooning, along with moderator Jennifer Camper, a fellow groundbreaking lesbian cartoonist, join forces at the Brooklyn Book Festival to discuss how queer art of the past and present can inform a response to the urgent political moment.

Diane DiMassa’s iconic Hothead Paisan: Homicidal Lesbian Terrorist was a steam release valve for zine readers in the late 1980s to early 1990s, featuring a trigger-happy lesbian warrior against patriarchy reined in only by her nagging cat, empathetic neighbor, a lightbulb-shaped deity, and the moon. A new edition of Hothead Paisan, featuring an introduction by Sarah Schulman and an author interview by Jay Graham, is out now from New York Review Comics.
