Collection: Sergei Tretyakov

Sergei Tretyakov (1892–1937) was a Soviet writer and theorist. Associated with the Russian futurist movement, he began as a poet and later became involved in theater, cinema, journalism, and even radio. He helped write the intertitles for Sergei Eisenstein’s Battleship Potemkin and had a profound influence on the work of his friend Bertolt Brecht. During the Great Purge, he was arrested, made to sign a false confession of espionage, and sentenced to death by firing squad. He killed himself in Moscow’s Butyrka prison before his execution could be carried out.
