The Swedish Academy awarded Anne Carson the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday, October 8, praising the Canadian author, classicist, and poet for "her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature." Her previous awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship, a MacArthur "genius grant", and the 2021 PEN/Nabokov Award.
NYRB Classics publishes Grief Lessons, Carson's translations of four plays—Herakles, Hekabe, Hippolytos, and Alkestis—by the Ancient Greek dramatist Euripides.
