The Society of Illustrators hosts comics scholar Caitlin McGurk and cartoonists R. Kikuo Johnson and Dash Shaw for a conversation about the legacy of Rea Irvin, the founding art editor at The New Yorker, and his satirical but sweet comic strip, The Smythes. 

A new collection of Irvin's The Smythes—edited by Johnson and Shaw, with an afterword by McGurk—is available now from New York Review Comics.
