The Alan Cheuse International Writers Center at George Mason University invites you to 'Let's Talk,' a two-day celebration of literature in translation on September 29th and 30th with readings, panels, and presentations from dozens of authors and translators.
Day two of the festival, Let's Talk: Day of Translation, begins at 12:00 noon at Gillespie Gallery, 1st Floor Art and Design Building at George Mason University. The featured speaker in 'Translators of Desire,' the 4:30 PM keynote discussion, is Peter Cole, who introduced and translated the poetry of the great Hebrew poet Hayim Nahman Bialik in On the Slaughter (NYRB Poets, 2025).
Cole, in conversation with poet-translator Judy Leserman, will explore the political, textural, and spiritual significance of translation, as well as its crucial role in the evolution of world poetries and the growth of individual poets, with a focus on his translations of Bialik's poetry.
