McNally Jackson Seaport hosts Lawrence Venuti for a discussion of The Bewitched Bourgeois: Fifty Stories, a new collection of Venuti's translations of short fiction by Dino Buzzati, some appearing here in English for the first time.
"Buzzati, a prolific novelist, journalist and artist," as described in the New York Times' January books selection, "never liked his designation as the Italian Kafka." But, as this career-spanning showcase of his work makes clear, "his fantastical, absurdist fiction certainly evokes the biting humor and social critique of his more famous predecessor."
Joining Venuti in conversation is Michael Wood, a literary critic and Professor Emeritus of English and Comparative Literature at Princeton.
