Harvard Book Store welcomes Benjamin Swett—winner of the 2013 New York City Book Award for Photography—for a discussion of his new book The Picture Not Taken: On Life and Photography, a New York Review Books original out October 29. In The Picture Not Taken, Swett, a celebrated photographer and essayist, brings a contemporary and profoundly human texture to the lofty theoretical discussions spawned by works like Roland Barthes’ Camera Lucida and Susan Sontag’s On Photography. As much as it is an inquiry on photography and its philosophical implications, it is also a deeply soulful meditation on family, memory, and loss.
Swett is joined by Sven Birkerts—editor of AGNI and author of The Miró Worm and the Mysteries of Writing.
This event is free to attend and open to the public.
